What is Music Therapy?
The American Music Therapy Association (AMTA) defines music therapy as "the clinical and evidenced-based use of music interventions to accomplish individualized goals within a therapeutic relationship by a credentialed professional who has completed an approved music therapy program."
These musical interventions may include singing, moving, listening, and/or composing to music in order to improve an individual's quality of life. Research has shown that music therapy can support and encourage growth in developmental areas, including:
Individual & Group Music Therapy Services
Small Steps Music offers individual and group music therapy sessions. These sessions use musical interactions and interventions to help children and adults with special needs work on goals determined by the music therapist's assessment of social, emotional, physical, communication, and cognitive skills.
