Services for Adults

When we need help with something outside our comfort zone, we seek an expert. It's ok to ask for help!
If you want to change your hair style, you visit a stylist.
If you want to get fit, you visit a personal trainer.
If you get injured or sick, you go to the doctor.

If you want to have music experiences change your life for the better, you call a music therapist.

Music Therapy is...

Clinical

Music therapists must demonstrate a range of competencies in order to be board-certified. These include: clinical music skills, psychology, anatomy and physiology, ethics, and research.  Music therapists spend over 1040 clinical hours training before becoming certified. They are uniquely qualified to use music as the medium through which clinical change can happen.

Safe

Like doctors, music therapists are trained to "first, do no harm." The treatment process aims to help people get better. A music therapist will know what to do in the event that a client is negatively affected by music, and can help that client move forward. This can be very important in developmental disabilities, dementias, and trauma.

Flexible

When looking for a teacher or a therapist, people are searching for someone that will help them reach their goals, not treat them like every other student or patient. Music therapists are trained to create treatment plans in collaboration with their client. We will work with you to develop techniques that work for you. From teaching you adapted guitar or piano techniques to creating a personal protocol for meditation and relaxation to supporting you through grief- music therapists will see you and your needs first.

Licensed

As of January 1, 2014, the state of Georgia requires individuals practicing music therapy to hold a license (LPMT) issued by the Georgia Secretary of State's Professional Licensing Division. For more information please read about Georgia Law O.C.G.A. § 43-25A-1 and visit the GA Professional Licensing Boards site on the Georgia Secretary of State's website: www.sos.ga.gov.
